Heinrich Julius Scheurl

Heinrich Julius Scheurl (born January 19, 1600 in Helmstedt , † December 13, 1651 in Helmstedt) was a German moral philosopher .

Life

The son of the Helmstedt professor of theology and general superintendent Lorenz Scheurl (1558–1613) and his wife Magdalena, daughter of the professor of theology and chancellor at the University of Tübingen Jacob Beurlin , had attended the patricular school in his hometown and received lessons from private teachers. In 1616 he attended the school of the Mariental monastery and then in 1619 moved to the University of Helmstedt . In 1624 he became Master of Philosophy there, continued his studies at the University of Leipzig , was elected Assessor of the National Council there and was appointed professor of ethics at the University of Helmstedt by Duke Friedrich Ulrich von Braunschweig-Lüneburg in 1628 , which he did until his End of life remained.

His marriage to Anna Maria, daughter of the Leipzig merchant Gerhard Grosse, at the end of January 1629 resulted in three sons and one daughter. Only one son survived the father.
