Heinrich Kuen

Heinrich Kuen (born August 2, 1899 in Imst , † October 7, 1989 in Dillingen ) was a German-Austrian Romance studies and linguist .

life and work

Kuen studied Romance studies and German studies at the University of Innsbruck , where he became a member of the Catholic student association WKSt.V. in 1920. Unitas Norica, and received his doctorate there in 1922 under Ernst Gamillscheg . After further studies in Berlin and Barcelona, ​​he worked as a lecturer in Innsbruck. In 1926 he became assistant to Philipp August Becker at the University of Leipzig . In 1930 he completed his habilitation there with Walther von Wartburg . From 1931 to 1938 he was the successor of Hans Rheinfelder Associate Professor of Romance Philology at the University of Freiburg , then until 1967 as the successor of Julius Pirson professor at the University of Erlangen , where he was Emeritus taught until 1,981th He declined calls to Leipzig, Lisbon, Heidelberg, Vienna and Innsbruck. He was the habilitation father of Bodo Müller , Ion Popinceanu, Hans Joachim Simon, Theodor Berchem , Gerhard Ernst and August Dauses . In the winter semester 1945/46 he was dean and 1953–1954 rector. Kuen was a member of the Bavarian Senate .

Students and friends dedicated two festschrifts to him, both edited by Gerhard Ernst and Arnulf Stefenelli : Language and People in Romania.
