Leitz studied at the TH Karlsruhe with his diploma in 1910 and his doctorate under Friedrich Engesser in 1914. He was Engesser's assistant and completed his habilitation in 1922 at the TH Munich . In addition to railway construction, he was also active in bridge construction and building construction. He was also known for his contributions to the statics of reinforced concrete.
