Heinrich Lengerich
Imanuel Heinrich Lengerich (born June 5, 1790 in Stettin , † October 8, 1865 in Berlin ) was a German history and portrait painter .
During his youth he was tutored in Berlin by Karl Wilhelm Wach , who was only three years his senior . From 1817 to 1821 he stayed in Italy , where he studied the works of the Renaissance , especially in Rome and Florence . In Rome he lived in the Casa Buti and there married Olympia Buti (1804–?), The daughter of his host parents. He made, also on behalf of the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III. , especially copies of the works of Raphael and Correggio . These studies formed the basis for his later teaching at the Berlin Art Academy. The Szczecin history painter Ludwig Most was one of his students . He was a member of the Berlin Freemasons' Lodge at the Golden Plow .
His most important works were the "Descent from the Cross" in the Stettiner Jakobikirche and the depictions of twelve Christian martyrs in the new chapel of the Berlin city palace . Among other things, a representation of the "Descent from the Cross" according to Raffael in the St. Bartholomew Church in Demmin has been preserved . A copy of Raphael's “The Triumphal Procession of Galatea” is in the malachite room of the Potsdam Orangery .
