Heinrich Ludwig von Flemming

Heinrich Ludwig von Flemming (born November 25, 1717 in Martenthin in Pomerania ; † April 6, 1783 in Breslau ) was a royal Prussian major general , chief of infantry regiment No. 29 and later commander of Breslau and heir to Martenthin and Lanken, as well as feudal lord of the Buckow lordship from 1777 .

His father was the Prussian major Wilhelm Friedrich von Flemming (born December 3, 1667), heir to Martenthin and Wustermitz , from the Pomeranian noble family Flemming . His mother was Sophia Elisabeth von Borcke .

Life

Flemming attended high school in Halle (Saale) , where Siegmund Jakob Baumgarten (* 1706; † 1757) was one of his teachers. In 1736 he went into Prussian service and was placed in Regiment No. 29 (Jung-Bork). There he became an ensign in 1737 and a second lieutenant in 1742. On September 18, 1747 he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant. In 1757 he became staff captain and in 1758 a real captain in the same year, on September 3, 1758 he was promoted to major. In 1760 he helped defend Breslau against Laudon ; In 1761 he was taken prisoner by the Russians with the Regiment zu Treptow an der Rega . After the war he was promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1765 and promoted to colonel on May 22, 1771. In 1773 he was promoted to command of Infantry Regiment No. 29 and in 1778 also became its chief. In the same year he was appointed major general. In 1782, due to his age, he got the job of commandant of Breslau.

He was involved in numerous battles between 1740 and 1763: Chotusitz , Hohenfriedberg , Prague , Breslau , Kolin and Kunersdorf as well as in the siege of Schweidnitz and the fighting in Pomerania in 1761. A bullet struck him in the body near Leuthen , which lasted until his death stayed in his body. He died of a hardened tumor in the esophagus that tormented him for twelve years and which finally no longer allowed him to eat.

When Imperial Count Friedrich von Flemming (* 1707; † 1777) died without a male heir in 1777, Heinrich Ludwig von Flemming was the next agnate to rule Buckow. He remained unmarried. His brother Christoph Friedrich von Flemming (* 1719, † 1789) took over his legacy in Buckow .
