Heinrich Poll (politician)

Heinrich Poll (* 1899 ; † February 7, 1992 ) was a Hürth politician. He was the first freely elected mayor of the municipality of Hürth after the Second World War . He was also the only mayor of the municipality ever appointed by the Communist Party of Germany (KPD).

Life

Heinrich Poll worked in Hürther lignite - opencast mines , the pit Engelbert and Roddergrube and was there for many years in the council active. He had also been active for the KPD in the municipal council of the then still independent municipality of Gleuel . During the time of National Socialism he was active in the resistance against National Socialism . He has been arrested multiple times and ill-treated in captivity . In 1945 he and other prisoners were freed by American soldiers from the Klingelpütz prison in Cologne . After the war he became actively involved in local politics in Hürth and in 1945 was delegated by the British occupying power to the council of the large community. In this, the CDU, as the successor to the center, and the SPD each received nine mandates, the KPD seven and four were independent. In 1946 he succeeded Fritz Räcke , appointed by the occupying powers and moved to the post of municipality director , with 16 to 11 votes , the first mayor of the municipality of Hürth elected by the municipal council. The first freely elected municipal council on September 15, 1946, was dominated by the CDU with 20 votes against three SPD and one KPD representative and elected Karl Pimpertz as his successor . The community director, Josef Arens (CDU), was also newly elected.

Honors

In 2001 the council of the city of Hürth decided to name a street after him in Alt-Hürth .
