Heinrich Rüth

Heinrich Rüth CSSp (also Henrique Rüth , born January 4, 1913 in Steele , † October 23, 2006 in Cruzeiro do Sul ) was a German clergyman and the first bishop of Cruzeiro do Sul .

Life

Heinrich Rüth was born on January 4, 1913 as the son of Josef and Margarethe Rüth in Essen-Steele. His father was a postal worker.

Luís Herbst joined the religious community of Spiritans and took his first religious vows in Heimbach in 1935. This was followed by seminar studies at the Spiritaner religious school in Knechtsteden , where he was also prematurely ordained on November 5, 1939 . Shortly afterwards he was drafted into the Wehrmacht , where he was deployed as a medical soldier on the Eastern Front and was taken prisoner of war. After his release, he first worked in pastoral care and as a teacher for ancient languages ​​in Donaueschingen , before he was sent to Brazil in 1949. There he was first active as a pastor in various parishes in the Alto Juruá district before he was appointed district superior in 1964.

Pope Paul VI appointed him on June 21, 1966 as coadjutor prelate of Juruá and titular bishop of Leptiminus . The Bishop of Essen, Franz Hengsbach , donated to him on 2 October of the same year in Essen the episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were Julius Angerhausen , auxiliary bishop in Essen , and Peter Kelleter CSSp, bishop of Bethlehem in South Africa . After the resignation of Bishop José Hascher , he followed him on February 2, 1967 as prelate of Juruá. With the elevation of the territorial prelature Juruá to the diocese of Cruzeiro do Sul on June 25, 1987 he became the first bishop of the new diocese. On December 7, 1988, he resigned from his office and handed the diocese over to Bishop Luís Herbst CSSp, who had been by his side as vicar general since 1967 and as coadjutor since 1979. Bishop Rüth died on October 23, 2006 in Cruzeiro do Sul and was buried in the local cathedral.
