Heinrich Rudolph Brinkmann
Heinrich Rudolph Brinkmann (born January 3, 1789 in Osterode am Harz , † January 20, 1878 in Kiel ) was a German law scholar and university professor.
Life
Brinkmann was the son of a town clerk in Osterode and began studying law at the University of Göttingen in November 1808 . Probably for economic reasons, Brinkmann was initially unable to do a doctorate and was nevertheless given the provisional license to teach civil law at the University of Göttingen in 1812 at the instigation of the General Director of Education in the Kingdom of Westphalia, Justus Christoph Leist, and was henceforth its protégé . It was not until 1814 that he took his doctoral examination - much to the displeasure of the Göttingen faculty - and was then awarded a doctorate in law without praise. After the Wars of Liberation, he represented the position of the legal unity of Germany while continuing to apply the Civil Code and thus came into conflict with the restoration in the Kingdom of Hanover . As one of the few university members he criticized the way the Hanoverian government and the University of Göttingen dealt with the French philosopher Charles de Villers, who was dismissed in 1814 . Until 1819 he worked as a private lecturer in Göttingen and then received a call as an associate professor at the law faculty of the University of Kiel , where he became a full professor in 1823. In 1834 he became a senior appellate judge at the newly established Schleswig-Holstein-Lauenburg Higher Appeal Court in Kiel. In 1855 he was dismissed as the oldest councilor together with the president of the court Friedrich Christian Schmidt and the councilor Alexander Friedrich Wilhelm Preusser by the Danish minister for Holstein and Lauenburg Ludwig Nicolaus von Scheele , which led to protests by the Schleswig-Holstein estates under their president Carl von Scheel -Plessen with the Danish King Christian IX. and led to a lawsuit before the Higher Appeal Court, which declared that it was not responsible.
