Heinrich Seliger

Heinrich Seliger (born December 13, 1888 in Wolfsburg , † October 17, 1956 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German teacher and local politician.

life and work

Seliger attended school in Helmstedt and completed teacher training in Weferlingen and Halle . In 1914 he entered the school service of the city of Frankfurt am Main as a teacher at the Günthersburg School . From 1921 onwards he was an unpaid magistrate at the suggestion of the SPD . In 1926 he became chairman of the professional debt deputation and in 1928 magistrate school councilor.

In 1933 the National Socialists removed the Social Democrats Seliger from his offices. In July 1945 he returned to school. From 1946 to 1954 he was head of the school department and was responsible for rebuilding the school system in Frankfurt. This included in particular the creation of suitable classrooms, as around half of the Frankfurt schools were destroyed. Seliger was particularly committed to the reconstruction of the urban school camp Kinderdorf Wegscheide near Bad Orb in order to create a place to relax for the children and young people in the destroyed Frankfurt.

In 1948 he became a member of the re-established Frankfurt Historical Commission .

Honors

In 1954, Seliger was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit. A memorial plaque in the Wegscheide school camp has been commemorating him since 1963. A street in Frankfurt-Niederrad and a primary school in the Dornbusch district are named after Seliger .
