Heinrich Siepmann (born November 30, 1904 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ; † December 16, 2002 there ) was a painter and belonged to the second generation of constructivism .

Live and act

From 1925 to 1927 he studied at the Folkwang School in Essen with Josef Urbach , Karl Kriete and Joseph Enseling . In 1948 he was a co-founder of the artist group “ Junge westen ” in Recklinghausen . Siepmann's early figurative works from the 1930s and 1940s already fascinate with their strict compositional image structure, and the artist who was closely associated with Mülheim throughout his life continued to develop his path towards non-objective, geometrical abstraction in the post-war years. Together with Thomas Grochowiak , Emil Schumacher , Ernst Hermanns , Hans Werdehausen and Gustav Deppe , he was one of the founding members of the artist group “young west”, which was initiated in Recklinghausen and who wanted to contribute to the region of Rhine and Ruhr after the art dictation by the German National Socialists to shape it again into a cultural landscape. After Siepmann briefly abandoned formal rigor in favor of informal structures in the 1960s due to the influences of his artist colleagues, at the end of the decade and especially from the 1970s onwards, he increasingly turned to a formal language that understands color and form on the canvas as independent pictorial means and shows this in compositions that are completely harmoniously balanced. It is perhaps Siepmann's greatest achievement that, despite his calculated creations, there is always a lyrical element inherent in the works.

Heinrich Siepmann was represented at a total of 36 major DKB exhibitions in Germany and abroad between 1953 and 1996 .
