Heinrich von Witzleben (Colonel)

Friedrich Albert Ernst Heinrich von Witzleben (born November 8, 1761 in Angelroda , † January 6, 1818 ) was a Prussian colonel and chief forester .

Life

origin

Heinrich was a member of the Thuringian noble family von Witzleben . he was the youngest, posthumously born son of the Prussian captain Albrecht Ernst Heinrich von Witzleben (1717–1761) and the Albertine Christiane Charlotte von Witzleben adH Liebenstein (1727–1818). The Prussian major general Heinrich Günther von Witzleben (1755-1825) was his older brother.

career

Witzleben received training in forestry and hunting and became a hunting page at the court in Weimar before joining the Prussian Army 46th Infantry Regiment in 1780 . At the same time he also became a Prussian hunting squire. In 1795 he marched with his regiment to Warsaw as part of the third partition of Poland . As early as 1796, he was transferred as captain to the newly established Fusilier Battalion No. 21 in Heilsberg . On November 30, 1798 he was promoted to major and at the same time transferred to the Fusilier Battalion No. 23 in Johannisberg . He was then in 1805 under the future General Field Marshal Ludwig Yorck von Wartenburg commander in the Feldjägerregiment and took part in the Fourth Coalition War. In 1807 he arrived in Königsberg and on December 25, 1808, at the same time he was promoted to colonel, he was again in command of the Guard Jäger Battalion .

On December 27, 1809, Witzleben received his farewell and found a job as head forester in Königsberg. Due to illness and badly shattered by the loss of his eldest son, who died at the age of 17 as a result of an injury received in front of Großgörschen , he left the Prussian civil service in the summer of 1814 and retired with a pension . H. v. 1800 thalers back to Martinroda .

He was co- lord of Angelroda and Elgersburg , and through marriage also heir to Rohrbach .

family

Witzleben married Wilhelmine von Koppenfels in 1795. Several children emerged from the marriage, including the Prussian Colonel Hermann von Witzleben (1797–1876).
