Heinz Adler

Heinz Adler (born October 31, 1912 in Breslau , German Reich ; † July 23, 1990 in Flensburg , Germany ) was a German politician ( SPD ) who was a member of the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament from 1946 to 1971 and who was from 1963 to 1977 was Lord Mayor of the City of Flensburg.

Life and work

After graduating from high school at St. Elisabeth Gymnasium , Adler studied law and political science at the University of Breslau and the Ruprecht Karls University of Heidelberg . In addition, he studied composition, stage direction, singing and acting. In 1935 he passed the trainee examination, in 1939 the assessor examination and then worked as a lawyer assistant in Wroclaw. In 1944 he was admitted to the bar there. After the end of the Second World War, he fled to Schleswig-Holstein , where he was admitted to the bar in Oldenburg in Holstein in January 1946 and as a notary in 1950 .

From 1946 to 1963, Adler was a member of the city council of Oldenburg in Holstein, and at times also of the local council. From 1946 to 1971, Adler was a member of the state parliament in Schleswig-Holstein . From May 8, 1947 to May 31, 1950 and from October 11, 1954 to January 15, 1970 he was the chairman of the Committee on Justice. From May 21 to October 24, 1949 he was also chairman of the investigative committee "Möwenhaus" and from December 12, 1949 to April 24, 1950 of the investigative committee "Kieler Nachrichten". From December 15, 1959 to June 27, 1961, he was deputy chairman of the two investigative committees “ Prof. Heyde / Dr. Sawade ”and from October 21, 1969 to March 29, 1971 of the committee of inquiry“ Boarding School Schloss Plön ”. From December 12, 1969 to May 15, 1971, Adler was chairman of the parliament's committee for the constitution and rules of procedure.

Public offices

From 1948 to 1953, Adler was a member of the administrative board of Nordwestdeutscher Rundfunk , from 1955 to 1958 and again from 1965 to 1970 to the Broadcasting Council of Norddeutscher Rundfunk .

On January 31, 1963, the council in Flensburg elected him Lord Mayor of the city for nine years with 23 votes out of 38 . After his re-election on February 3, 1972, his term of office was extended until he retired at the end of 1977.

From April 1966 Adler was a deputy member of the board of directors of the Savings Banks and Giro Association for Schleswig-Holstein , from 1970 to the end of 1977 he was a full board member there. From 1973 he was a member of the board of directors of the Grenzfriedensbund and from 1978 chairman of the Deutsche Kulturgesellschaft Flensburg .

Private life

Adler was a Protestant, married and had one child.

Honors

In 1959, Adler received the Freiherr vom Stein medal . On December 30, 1972, he was awarded the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and in 1977 the Dr. Johann Christian Eberle Medal .
