Heinz Bierbaum (born December 5, 1946 in Triberg ) is a German politician and former deputy chairman of the Die Linke party . Since the state elections in Saarland in 2009 , he was a member of the Saarland state parliament . In 2017 he did not run again. Bierbaum is currently President of the European Left.

education and profession

Bierbaum studied 1969-1973 Sociology in Freiburg and Berlin and graduated as diploma - sociologist from. From 1973 to 1976 he studied business administration for a diploma in Berlin and obtained his doctorate in economics and social sciences in 1977 ( Dr. rer. Pol. ). From 1996 to 2009 Bierbaum taught business management and corporate policy at the Saarland University of Applied Sciences as a professor of business administration . He is the managing director of INFO-Institut e. V. in Saarbrücken and consultant for the INFO-Institut Beratung-GmbH .

Political party

In 2004 Bierbaum joined the WASG and became a member of the Die Linke party in the course of the merger of WASG and PDS . In the state elections in Saarland in 2009, Bierbaum entered the state parliament via the state list. There he was the economic policy spokesman and parliamentary manager of the Left . Bierbaum was elected President of the European Left on December 15, 2019 at the sixth Congress of the European Left in Malaga with 66.7% of the vote.
