Life

After an apprenticeship as a wholesale merchant in timber and building materials he received about the second chance the university , studied sociology with Theodor W. Adorno and Max Horkheimer in Frankfurt and finally a doctorate in Bremen . He then worked as a postdoctoral fellow on academic exchange programs at Latin American universities. Heinz Dieterich has been a professor with a chair in sociology and methodology at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) in Mexico City since 1977 .

In addition to Arno Peters , Heinz Dieterich is the protagonist of the new “Bremen School” of social scientists who, in their opinion, are committed to a world economic order based on the so-called principle of equivalence . Heinz Dieterich's approach also takes on cybernetic approaches to control macroeconomic planning processes to justify a "computer socialism" ( Konrad Zuse ) of the 21st century.

Since his lead study “ Production Conditions in Latin America ” (Gießen 1977), Heinz Dieterich has published several books, research reports and essays on Latin American development processes. Some of his books have also appeared in German. After publishing 20 books in 15 countries, Heinz Dieterich also publishes on the Internet, mainly on the website rebelion.org . According to the Kai-Homilius-Verlag , which published most of his more recent works, Dieterich is the most published author of contemporary political works in Cuba.

21st century socialism

In Dieterich's book “ Socialism in the 21st Century. Economy, society and democracy after global capitalism ”is the basic thesis of the sustainable and worldwide exhaustion of all essential bourgeois institutions and the necessity of a post-capitalist development path.

His theses on socialism of the 21st century are discussed in Venezuela among the supporters of President Hugo Chávez, who died in March 2013, in connection with the Bolivarian revolution . Dieterich was at least temporarily regarded as an (informal) advisor to the “Bolivarian” development process represented by the Venezuelan President Chávez. After Heinz Dieterich's friend, the former Defense Minister Raúl Baduel , fell out of favor with the Venezuelan president because he rejected the planned constitutional reform, Dieterich's relationship with Hugo Chavez also cooled.

Dieterich's programmatic work on the political situation after the collapse of communism in Eastern Europe was enthusiastically recommended for reading by the late Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez . The second, expanded edition appeared in Germany in 2006. Dieterich's work is based on the basic thesis that neither capitalism nor socialism has yet succeeded in solving the pressing problems of humanity such as poverty, hunger, exploitation, oppression, the destruction of the natural foundations of life and real participation in democracy. He describes his alternative project as a “new historical project” or as a further development of previous representative democracy as “participatory democracy” and indicates the following features:

  1. Equivalence Economy
  2. Direct democracy
  3. Rational aesthetic subject
  4. Participatory institutionality
