Heinz Freitag (politician)

Heinz Freitag (born July 6, 1936 in Crimmitschau , † March 12, 2002 in Chemnitz ) was a German politician of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). In 1989/90 he was the first secretary of the SED area leadership in Wismut.

Life

Friday, the son of a worker, learned the trade of dyer after elementary school and passed the master craftsman examination. In 1950 he joined the Free German Youth (FDJ). From 1955 he worked as a brigadier in the Schachtkombinat Schmichau of the SDAG Wismut .

In 1961 Friday joined the SED, attended a course at the party college "Karl Marx" in 1963/64 and then became a full-time functionary. From 1965 to 1970 he was first secretary of the FDJ area leadership in Wismut and from 1963 to 1970 he was a member of the central council of the FDJ . In 1971, Freitag became second and in 1989 first secretary of the SED area leadership in Wismut, which had the rank of district leadership, as successor to Alfred Rohde .

After the peaceful revolution in the GDR at the beginning of 1990, Freitag lost all political offices.
