Kurt Kieß

Kurt Kieß (born May 28, 1914 in Griesbach ; † December 30, 1970 in Karl-Marx-Stadt ) was an SED party functionary who was first secretary of the SED area leadership in Wismut from 1960 to 1970 , and a candidate from 1967 to 1970 in the Central Committee of the SED .

Life

Kieß was born on May 28, 1914, the son of a locksmith , who later also became a KPD member, in Griesbach in the Ore Mountains. After elementary school , he initially trained as a plumber from 1928 to 1931 . At the beginning of his apprenticeship he joined the Communist Youth Association of Germany , for which he was temporarily a member of the board of the Lauter local group . After completing his apprenticeship, Kieß was initially unemployed, but from 1932 he returned to various activities as a plumber, cutter and punch . At the age of 18 he became a member of the KPD .

Military service and Soviet captivity

In October 1936 he was one of the first conscripts to do their regular two-year military service in the Wehrmacht . After his release in October 1938, Kieß initially returned to his old job as a punching machine in Aue until he was called up for military service again in August 1939. He survived the Second World War until May 1945 without any major known wounds; After the end of the war, Kieß was taken prisoner by the Soviets as a sergeant major in the Wehrmacht . He spent this mainly in camp 7323/10 in Tula , where he soon worked as a plumber and worked his way up to become a brigadier and best worker . As a KPD member, he became a member of the camp's anti-fascist activists and a propagandist ; later he did a year-long course at an Antifa school.

Wismut AG and political career

In June 1948, Kieß was released from captivity to Germany. After a short illness, he began to work as a plumber in Bernsbach in July 1948 . His KPD membership was converted into SED membership. In August 1949, Kieß started to work at Wismut AG ; he worked as a pit fitter in the Oberschlema district until March 1951. Then he was employed as part of a personnel restructuring of the party organs in Wismut until June 1951, initially as a cadre instructor of the object party leadership in Oberschlema object 11. He was then used as the 2nd secretary of this object party leadership until June 1952. This was followed by a deployment as 1st secretary of the SED district leadership Wismut-Breitenbrunn until December 1953, and then until April 1957 the assignment as 1st secretary of the SED district leadership Wismut-Oberschlema. Since 1954 he was part of the office of the SED area leadership in Wismut.

In April 1957, Kieß moved to Siegmar-Schönau , where he temporarily held the post of Secretary for Economics of the SED area management in Wismut until August of the same year. Subsequently, at the age of 43, he took part in a one-year course at the Karl-Marx party college in order to take over the post of 2nd secretary of the SED area leadership in Wismut from August 1958. When Rolf Weihs was appointed first secretary of the SED district leadership in Karl-Marx-Stadt in March 1960 , Kurt Kieß moved up and now occupied the post of first secretary of the SED district leadership in Wismut. Taking into account the importance of his position, the SED nominated him as a candidate for the People's Chamber elections in 1963 . Kiess was elected as a member of the People's Chamber in the 5th and 6th legislative periods . At the Seventh Party Congress of the SED in 1967, Kiess was elected as a candidate for the Central Committee of the SED . He died unexpectedly on December 30, 1970 at the age of 56.
