Heinz Müller (born May 1, 1954 in Essen ) has been State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania since December 7, 2016. He was a member of the SPD and is a former member of the state parliament in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

Life and work

After graduating from high school in 1972 in his hometown, Heinz Müller studied politics and German studies at the University of Marburg from 1972 to 1979 . In 1979 and 1983, respectively, he completed his studies with the 1st and 2nd state exams for teaching at grammar schools. In the time between the exams, he did the necessary legal clerkship in Kassel. From 1984 to 1991 he was managing director of the SPD city council group in Kassel and from 1991 to 1993 employee in the office for urban development and city marketing of the same city. From 1993 to the end of 2009 he was managing director of the Social Democratic Community for Local Politics in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania e. V. active. He is divorced and has two children.

Müller long-time deputy chairman of the SPD district association South Western Pomerania, which includes the former district associations Greifswald-Ostvorpommern, Uecker-Randow, as well as the SPD local association Loitz. Member of the state parliament

From 1998, Müller was a member of the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . From 2010 to 2016 he was parliamentary managing director and spokesman for the SPD state parliamentary group for local politics. In addition, from 2006 to 2010 he was chairman of the parliamentary commission of inquiry "Strengthening local self-government" and from 2003 to 2006 he was chairman of the parliamentary special committee "Administrative modernization and functional reform" . In the state elections on October 4, 2016 , he missed the re-entry.

On December 8, 2016, Müller was elected Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information for five years at the suggestion of the SPD state parliamentary group.

At the end of 2019, Müller announced his exit from the SPD after a 37-year membership. He justified his resignation with the lack of approval from the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to increase the staffing of his authority.
