Heinz Nickelsburg

Heinz Nickelsburg (born October 27, 1912 in Berlin , † March 17, 2001 in London ) was a German table tennis player .

Career

Heinz Nickelsburg played for the clubs Westend Berlin and TC Borussia 1902 Berlin . Between 1930 and 1933 he played 29 international matches for Germany and took part in four world championships. In 1931 he was German champion in doubles, twice he was runner-up in singles.

When the National Socialists came to power in Germany in 1933 , they called on all sports associations to Aryanize . Nickelsburg then emigrated to Switzerland as a native Jew. In 1934 and 1938 he took part in the World Championships under the Swiss flag as a player and team manager for Switzerland.

At the end of the 1930s he moved to England. He acquired British citizenship and lived in London under the name Hilary Nichols until his death .

    • 1931 in Budapest: quarter-finals doubles, 5th place with men's team
    • 1932 in Prague: Round of 16 in singles, 5th place with men's team
    • 1933 in Baden / Vienna: quarter-finals mixed, 7th place with men's team
    • 1934 in Paris: only individual for Switzerland
    • 1938 in Wembley: only individual for Switzerland

    • 1934 Switzerland: 1st place singles, 1st place doubles (with P.Vergain, Switzerland), 1st place mixed (with B.Wyss, Switzerland)
    • 1936 Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland: 1st place mixed (with N.Dyrenfurth, Switzerland)
    • 1937 Vevey, Switzerland: 1st place doubles (with N.Dyrenfurth, Switzerland), 1st place mixed (with M.Isely, Switzerland)
    • 1938 Zurich, Switzerland: 1st place mixed (with N.Dyrenfurth, Switzerland)
