Heinz Scheinpflug

Heinz Scheinpflug (born April 20, 1924 in Weißensee ; † 2008 ) was a German politician ( SED ). From 1969 to 1982 he was Lord Mayor of Erfurt .

Life

Scheinpflug, the son of a worker, learned the trade of toolmaker at the Rheinmetall company in Sömmerda after attending primary school and initially worked in the trade. During the Second World War he was drafted into the Navy for military service in 1942. From April to May 1945 he was a British prisoner of war .

After his release he worked as a transport worker in Kiel until 1946 . After returning home, he worked from 1946 to 1949 as a toolmaker at VEB Büromaschinenwerk Sömmerda. He joined the FDJ and in 1949 the SED. In 1950 he became the full-time secretary of the FDJ basic organization in the VEB Büromaschinenwerk Sömmerda. From 1950 to 1952 he was mayor of the city of Weißensee, from 1952 to 1955 secretary and from 1955 to 1957 chairman of the council of the Sömmerda district. From 1957 to 1958 he studied at the party college of the CPSU in Moscow . He then acted from 1958 to 1961 as the deputy chairman or secretary of the Erfurt District Council . From 1961 to 1964 he was chairman of the council of the Worbis district and from 1964 to 1968 first secretary of the SED district leadership in Nordhausen . From January 8, 1968 to October 20, 1982, he was mayor of the city of Erfurt. He resigned from this office for health reasons.

On March 19, 1970, Scheinpflug, together with the Chairman of the Council of Ministers Willi Stoph and Foreign Minister Otto Winzer, received Federal Chancellor Willy Brandt for the first German-German summit at the Erfurt train station .
