Gustav Schneider (politician, 1847)
Gustav Schneider (born May 23, 1847 in Sontra near Kassel ; † May 17, 1913 in Magdeburg ) was a German administrative lawyer and municipal official. He was Lord Mayor of Erfurt and Magdeburg.
Life
Karl Gustav Schneider grew up as the son of a rent master in Bad Hersfeld . There he passed the Abitur in 1864. He studied law at the Philipps University and was active in the Corps Teutonia Marburg in 1865 . Promotion. He then became a district judge in Naugard, Pomerania . He took over his first municipal political office in 1882 as second mayor of the city of Halle (Saale) . In 1890 he was appointed mayor of Erfurt.
In July 1895 Schneider took up the post of Lord Mayor of Magdeburg. His services to the city of Magdeburg include the introduction of the Building Police Ordinance of 1893, which prescribed an open, healthy construction method for the outskirts of the city, as well as the issuance of a new police ordinance in 1896. During Schneider's tenure, the Westfriedhof opened in 1898 , the new building of the Museum of Arts and Crafts started in 1901, the commissioning of the Königsbrücke (today Nordbrücke) in 1903 and from 1904 at the beginning of the city expansion on the former fortress site. Schneider demonstrated his musical sense with his initiative to take over the Magdeburg theater and concert orchestra and introduce public orchestral concerts.
He sat in the so-called "OB faction" of the Prussian mansion . On July 31, 1906, he retired after eight years in office.
