Heinz Volland

Heinz Volland (born March 31, 1921 in Hardisleben ; † June 10, 2019 ) was a German officer ( Colonel a. D.) in the Bundeswehr .

Life

Heinz Volland joined the Bundeswehr in 1956. From 1956 to 1966 he held various positions in the army. He then became the commander of a supply battalion and was a department head at the Bundeswehramt in Bonn. In 1980 he retired from service with the rank of colonel.

From 1956 Volland was a member of the board of the German Armed Forces Association (DBwV). From 1967 to 1985 he was its chairman. In this capacity he founded the European Organization of Military Associations (EUROMIL) in 1971 . He was chairman and then a member of the advisory board of the Foundation of German Officers Association (DOB).

The military historian Bruno Thoss described it as follows:

“An inconspicuous, extremely tenacious interlocutor who knows how to put parliamentarians under pressure to succeed and then exclusively pin their work results on their own flag. He gives parliamentarians no chance to participate. "

In 1977 the Heinz Volland Foundation (HVMS) for soldiers in need was established.

  • 1973: Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class
  • 1982: Great Cross of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany
  • 1985: Honorary Chairman of the DBwV and holder of the Ring of Honor
