Lothar Domröse

Lothar Paul Georg Domröse (born October 27, 1920 in Stolp , Pomerania , † May 19, 2014 in Bonn ) was a German officer, most recently Lieutenant General of the Bundeswehr . He was u. a. Chief of Staff at the Headquarters of the Armed Forces . In 1963 he was acting chairman of the German Armed Forces Association and from 1983 to 1991 he was president of the Clausewitz Society .

Life

Promotions

After graduating from high school in 1939, Lothar Domröse was drafted into the Wehrmacht as a flag junior in Berlin-Lichterfelde in December of the same year . He was trained at the 73rd Infantry Regiment in Hanover and at the War School in Potsdam. In April 1941 he became platoon leader and later company commander in the 73rd Rifle Regiment of the 19th Panzer Division . In October 1941 he suffered a serious wound and was admitted to a hospital , where he stayed until he recovered. In October 1943 he became ensign father and battalion adjutant in the Panzergrenadier Replacement and Training Battalion 73 and in January 1944 he was an auxiliary officer in the department head IIa 1 at the deputy general command of the XI. Army Corps . In April 1945 he became an orderly officer with the commander-in-chief of the army group "Blumentritt" , General of the Infantry Günther Blumentritt . Domröse was deployed on the western and eastern fronts in World War II ; in May 1945 he was taken prisoner by the British .

In 1956 he was accepted into the German Armed Forces and initially worked as a clerk in the Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg) in Bonn. 1958/59 he completed the general staff course (H) at the Federal Armed Forces Leadership Academy (FüAkBw) in Hamburg. From 1959 to 1962 he was G3 of Panzer Brigade 8 "Lüneburg" . From 1962 to 1965 he was in the command staff of the Army (Fü H) in Bonn and in 1965/66 in the command staff of the armed forces (Fü S) in Bonn. In 1966 he took over the management of the press and information staff of the Federal Ministry of Defense (PrInfoStab) in Bonn. In 1969 he became the commander of Panzer Brigade 2 in Braunschweig . At the Royal College of Defense Studies (RCDS) in London, he completed the general staff course in 1972. In 1973 he became Chief of Staff of the Northern Army Group (NORTHAG) in Mönchengladbach . In 1975 he took over the position of Chief of Staff of the Command Staff of the Armed Forces in the BMVg in Bonn. From 1977 to 1981 he was Deputy Chief of Staff Operations at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Mons , Belgium. In 1981 he retired from service.

Others

From 1947 to 1956 he worked as managing director of an Allied civil service group and a transformer factory . In 1992 he was a founding partner of the aroma and fragrance manufacturer Miltitz Aromatics near Leipzig . In 1963 Domröse was interim chairman and then deputy chairman of the German Federal Armed Forces Association (DBwV). From 1983 to 1991 he was President of the Clausewitz Society . He was also a Rotarian . He was of Protestant denomination, married and had three children; his son Hans-Lothar Domröse was general of the army.
