Bernhard Gertz

Bernhard Gertz (born September 15, 1945 in Hamburg ) is a German lawyer and Colonel a. D. of the air force of the German Armed Forces and was Federal Chairman of the German Armed Forces Association from 1993 to 2008 .

Life

Gertz graduated from high school in Hamburg in 1965 and then completed his military service in the Air Force. On April 1, 1967, he was appointed lieutenant and assigned to the post of platoon leader as well as an information and press officer, later then personnel and staff platoon leader in Husum and Uetersen . From 1971 to 1972 he studied business administration at the Air Force College in Neubiberg . Then he was deployed until 1973 as head of the squadron training and security squadron of Air Transport Wing 61 in Penzing .

From 1973 to 1977 Gertz studied law in Munich and passed his first state examination in 1977 . In 1978 he did his legal preparatory service at the Munich Higher Regional Court until 1980 and passed his second state examination in 1980 . He then returned to active service in the German Armed Forces as a staff officer qualified to hold judicial office . After he was employed as S1 staff officer (staff) in the air force 's main office, he was transferred to the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn as consultant P II 7 and P II 5 in the personnel department. From June 1988 to March 1991 he was a member of the main staff council and most recently first deputy chairman and group spokesman for the soldiers. On April 1, 1991, he was promoted to colonel and took over the management of the P II 5. During his service, he had various board activities in fellow soldiers. In October 1985 he was elected legal advisor of the German Armed Forces Association (DBwV) and at the same time became a member of the executive board. From 1991 he was a member of the federal management. On October 26, 1993 he was elected federal chairman of the DBwV and was confirmed in office in October 1997, September 2001 and November 2005.

Gertz has been chairman of the Heinz Volland Foundation since 1993, chairman of the Manfred Grodzki Institute since 2002, member of the advisory board for internal guidance at the Federal Minister of Defense since 1994 and deputy president of the European since May 1994 and again since September 2006 Association of Military Associations (EUROMIL). From December 2005 to September 2006 he was President of EUROMIL. Gertz is married and has two daughters.

Gertz retired on December 31, 2008. Ulrich Kirsch, Lieutenant Colonel of the Army , who was six years his junior, took over his position as chairman of the German Armed Forces Association .
