Heinz Winkler (politician)

Heinz Winkler (born May 7, 1910 in Chemnitz , † June 25, 1958 in Berlin ) was a German politician ( CDU ). From 1953 to 1958 he was Minister for Construction and Construction in the GDR .

Life

As the son of a carpenter, after attending elementary and secondary school, he completed an apprenticeship as a bricklayer from 1927 to 1928 and studied to be a civil engineer at the State Academy of Technology in Chemnitz until 1932 . He was an architect and building contractor in Chemnitz until 1935 and an employee in the Army Construction Office until 1936. From 1936 to 1941 he worked as a site manager for acid protection works and as an acid protection engineer in Siershahn and Breslau . From 1941 to 1945 he did military service as a soldier in the Wehrmacht , most recently with the rank of NCO . Since 1938 he was a member of the NSDAP .

After the Second World War in 1945, he succeeded in creating a modest existence for himself in Adelsberg as a self-employed architect, mainly for rural residential construction. In 1948 he joined the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU). From 1949 to 1950 he was an architect at the Chemnitz district council and head of the Chemnitz district planning office. From 1950 to 1953 he worked as the technical director of VEB Bauplanung Chemnitz and from February 1953 as director of the structural engineering design office in Stalinstadt . In November 1952 he was awarded the honorary title of " Honored Technician of the People ". From November 1953 to 1958, he succeeded Lothar Bolz as Minister for the Development of the GDR. He was a member of the main board since 1954, of the presidium since 1956 and chairman of the advisory board for construction of the CDU since 1958.

Winkler died as a result of a swimming accident: during his summer vacation in Bulgaria, he suffered serious head injuries from diving into the Black Sea. He was brought to Berlin in a special plane, where he died days later in the government hospital. Heinz Winkler was buried in the Grünau forest cemetery.
