Helchenried is a district of the Upper Swabian market Dirlewang in the Unterallgäu district in Bavaria . The village is about a kilometer east of the main town. He is connected to Dirlewang by the federal highway 16 running through the town . To the west of the village is the Am Immen elevation with a height of 686 meters above sea level, which is wooded. The remaining areas around the village are mostly used for agriculture. The name could come from a lost castle.

history

A branch line of the Ursin-Ronsberg rule was wealthy in the place as early as the 13th century. The Ottobeuren monastery received an estate in Helchenriet from Count Gottfried von Marstetten in 1213. Together with the Ottobeuren monastery governor, the Helchenried estate went to the Staufers in 1236 . A short time later the place belonged to the monastery again. In 1427 Jos and Margaretha Schwinkrist sold their fiefdom belonging to the Ottobeuren monastery for 1000 guilders to Duke Ulrich von Teck of the Mindelheim rule . Helchenried was practically incorporated into the Mindelheim rulership. With the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss 1803, the political community of Helchenried came into being.

Land consolidations took place in the village in 1921 and 1955. Helchenried lost its political independence when it was incorporated into the Dirlewang municipality on April 1, 1972.

Attractions

The branch church of St. Maria goes back to a new building in the second half of the 15th century, in which Romanesque walls were partially used.
