Breathless is a German television film by Sebastian Ko from 2020. It is the 12th episode of the ZDF crime series Helen Dorn with Anna Loos in the title role .

action

Chief Detective Helen Dorn is on her way to a new location. The LKA is currently monitoring an arms dealer and is about to gain access when the action gets out of hand. Unknown perpetrators shoot those under surveillance and kill three people. You can escape, but are seen by a 15 year old homeless man. The LKA assumes that there is a mole in their ranks and so Eve Cornelius and her colleague Kroisen are commissioned as internal investigators to shed light on the incident. The two have my reason to suspect that Dorn's superior, Falk Mattheisen, may also have been guilty of embezzlement, as costs were billed for an undercover agent who apparently does not even exist. Cornelius speaks to Dorn so that she should help her on this matter, but Dorn refuses to denounce her boss. He also seeks contact with Dorn and informs them about the activities of a group called "Odin's Speer", which have committed themselves to rid Germany of so-called "scraps" and take radical action against the homeless, drug dealers and junkies . And so he is sure that the arms dealers he had just investigated should deliver weapons and explosives for "Odin's Spear". His undercover agent would also have revealed that this group had a direct informant in the LKA and was therefore armed against them about upcoming actions. During their conversation in a pub, Dorn hears something suspicious and wants to look. She is unexpectedly knocked down and when she comes to, she finds her boss dead on the ground, shot with her gun. Cornelius and Kroisen are no longer investigating Mattheisen, but rather Helen Dorn.

A police patrol manages to pick up Mona, the homeless witness. Dorn makes it clear to the girl that her life is in danger because she can identify the killer. When she takes Mona to the presidium, they meet Kroisen in the corridor to the underground car park, whereupon Mona recognizes one of the assassins in him and immediately runs away. Kroisen begins to shoot Dorn and Mona, immediately calls for reinforcements and claims to have come under fire himself. Dorn has to flee with Mona, because Cornelius immediately initiates a large manhunt. Dorn only keeps secret contact with forensic technician Weyer, but Dorn's new colleague Ruben Bosch also has doubts about Kroisen's portrayal. How could Dorn have shot him if her weapon was still locked? Bosch is certain that Kroisen is the mole.

Dorn and Mona not only have to hide from the police, but also from "Odin's spear", which their informant from the LKA also set on Dorn and the girl. Dorn can skillfully avoid any contact with the police, as they know exactly what to look out for. Her Mona can also help to submerge herself in the city and to remain “invisible”. Nevertheless, “Odin's Spear” finds a trace to them. The men kidnap Mona and Dorn can only with difficulty escape the police. Since she was injured in Kroisen's attack, her gunshot wound needs urgent treatment. Here she can build on the loyalty of Weyer, who brings her to her father without the officers watching Richard Dorn's house noticing.

Fit again, Helen Dorn is researching a Dieter Wagner who she noticed during her investigation into the murderer of Mattheisen. Wagner used to work for the LKA himself, and now has a security company. Since Mattheisen had already tracked him down and there are documents about a blind shaft in the subway, Dorn suspects the planned bomb attack by "Odin's spear" here. Dorn goes to this shaft and comes across Mona, who was equipped with an explosive belt by her kidnappers and is now supposed to function as a living bomb. Dorn shoots one of the men and looks for more accomplices. She unexpectedly meets her new colleague Bosch. This chains Dorn to Mona and explains that Wagner has it in his hand.

Weyer informs Cornelius about the current situation and the blind shaft is stormed in a large-scale operation. Kroisen, Wagner and his accomplices are arrested and Bosch is killed in the process. Dorn and Mona were able to free themselves from the bomb and get to safety.

criticism

Tilmann P. Gangloff from tittelbach.tv said: “In this film there is high tension from the first to the last minute. Sebastian Ko stages the heroine even harder than usual: As 'Last Man Standing', Dorn has to deal with a group of unscrupulous fascists who are planning a terrorist attack; as the alleged murderer of her boss, she is also hunted by her own colleagues. To top it all, she also has a block on her leg: The stray Mona, type of rebellious teenager, is on the hit list of the neo-Nazis. "

The TV Spielfilm editorial team gave the best rating (“thumbs up”) and wrote: “The film has an incredibly strong cast. The mood is threatening, tension and pace are constantly increasing, until you hardly believe you are in the German Saturday thriller. "

In Quotenmeter.de Julian Miller criticized that must combine "That the audience faster than a number of the characters, the main reason is probably why after the first act not a strong tension for the largely predictable plot arises - at least apart from a rather daring twist just before The end, which despite its adventurousness can be anticipated all too easily. ”“ The fact that the frightening intersection of police officers and right-wing extremist murderers remains a superficially torn marginal note is probably due to the breathless dramaturgy - which unfortunately outweighs a faulty arc of suspense. ”
