Helga Kneidl

Helga Kneidl , b. Claus , (born September 29, 1939 in Dresden ) is a German photographer .

Life

Between 1953 and 1958 Helga Claus learned artistic dance at the Palucca School . Afterwards she was engaged as a dancer at various German stages and at festivals. In 1961 she married the set designer Karl Kneidl . The marriage had two children, Kathrin and Franziska Kneidl.

Helga Kneidl studied theater photography with Leonard Zubler in Zurich (1969/1970). She photographed the rehearsals for Changeling under the direction of Peter Stein at the Schauspielhaus Zurich. In 1970 she finally went to the Schaubühne in Berlin. In 1973 she traveled to Paris and portrayed Romy Schneider . Between 1972 and 1978 she was initially a house photographer at the Berlin Schaubühne and also took on assignments for the Schiller and Gripstheaters. She was under contract with Ivan Nagel at the Hamburger Schauspielhaus and worked in Zurich and Rotterdam. In 1979/1980 a photo film was made about the Big Apple in New York.

From 1980 to 1996 she was back at the Hamburger Schauspielhaus. In the eighties she portrayed Joseph Beuys , Rainer Werner Fassbinder , Heiner Müller and Erland Josephson, among others . As a guest she photographed with Günter Krämer in Bremen and at the Hamburg State Opera with Schaaf, Dresen and Mussbach. She created still photos for films at Blumenberg, Senf and Vielsmeier. She has also published recordings in newspapers, magazines and books. In 2001 she took over the theater photography for Hans Neuenfels' production of Titus Andronicus at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin.

Helga Kneidl has lived in Berlin since 1997 and works mainly in the field of portrait photography .
