Helge Sasse
Helge Sasse (born August 16, 1956 in Cologne ) is a German film producer and lawyer . From 2006 to 2014 he was CEO of Senator Entertainment AG .
Life
Sasse began studying law and political science at the universities of Munich , Geneva and Paris in 1975 and then worked between 1979 and 1990 as a freelance journalist , radio presenter and freelance TV editor, mainly in the field of music and shows, for a number of ARD broadcasters , among others for the Bavarian radio , Südwestrundfunk, the North German radio and SFB or private radio stations such as Tele 5 and Pro7 . As a television producer and co-founder of VIVA TV and MM&E , he was a partner and member of the supervisory board of several media companies. As a lawyer (since 1989), he founded his own law firm in Munich in 1991, where he worked until 2005. At the beginning of 2006 he became chairman of the supervisory board of "Senator Entertainment AG", from April chairman of the board and from December 17, 2008 to February 28, 2013 the sole board member of this company. Under his leadership, the Senator Film Verleih brought successful films such as Der Vorleser , The Kings Speech or A Single Man and in 2012 the blockbuster Pretty Best Friends to German cinemas.
On June 20, 2014, Helge Sasse resigned from his position as CEO of Senator Entertainment AG after eight years. Under Sasse's leadership, Senator Film was involved in the core business of producing and distributing German and international films , as well as in the areas of TV production, music and DVD distribution. The reason for his resignation are risky purchases of international works such as a. Silver Linings Playbook , Side Effects and The Master , which did not meet the expectations placed on them at the German box office. In 2013 Senator suffered a loss of EUR 27.4 million, as a result of which the British investment group and owner Sapinda initiated restructuring measures at Senator.
As a producer and co-producer, for example, he is responsible for films like Goethe! , The Cook and The Beloved Sisters , Mr. Morgan's Last Love and A Most Wanted Man (2014).
With his departure from Senator Film, Sasse settled down again in Munich as part of the lawyers Sasse & Partner, since 2016 SBL Sasse, Bachelin & Lichtenhahn (Berlin, Munich) and founded his own film production company as a producer with Tempest Film Produktion und Verleih.
