The Helle Mitte is a district center that has existed since 1997 in the Berlin district of Hellersdorf in the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district .

Emergence

The Senate of Berlin (at that time still together with the Magistrate of East Berlin ) announced an urban planning competition in 1990 for the development of a district center for Berlin-Hellersdorf. The architectural office Brandt & Böttcher prevailed against 61 competitors in the end. Mega AG was commissioned with the implementation . The name was derived from the district of Hellersdorf and the center of the then independent district.

When the foundation stone was laid on October 19, 1995, the 31  hectare area was the second largest building project in Berlin after the construction site at Potsdamer Platz at the time . Helle Mitte was opened with a ceremony on September 11, 1997 .

With around 80,000 m² of retail, office and practice space, 180 shops, restaurants, cafes and bars, the Helle Mitte is an important business location in the east of the city. In addition to the retail chain Real , the companies C&A were among the main tenants of the largest buildings until December 2011 and Saturn until the end of 2012. Science, administration, entertainment and service facilities are also located in 19 modern buildings. The Hellersdorf town hall , the Alice Salomon University , an upper school center and the largest medical center in Berlin and Brandenburg are particularly noteworthy . As an employer for around 2000 people, Helle Mitte is also home to the MarktplatzCenter shopping center , a hotel and one of the formerly largest multiplex cinemas in Berlin with twelve halls and 2700 seats. However, this was reduced to six halls in favor of the Berlin mine (indoor climbing facility).

The new district center was developed with an expanded system of streets and squares, in particular Alice-Salomon-Platz at the intersection of Hellersdorfer and Riesaer / Stendaler Straße with a fine network of surrounding access roads that were named after artists or writers.

On the occasion of the anniversary of the founding of the then Hellersdorf district in 1986, a Classic Open Air concert took place on June 3, 2016 on Fritz-Lang-Platz .

Around 250,000 people live in the catchment area of ​​Hellen Mitte, 81,000 of them within walking distance.

The district center is connected to the public transport network through the Hellersdorf underground station , the M6 and 18 tram lines and the X54, 195 and N5 bus lines .

About the big Berlin entry and exit roads Landsberger Allee and Frankfurter Allee and the beltway A 10 the luminosity is center with the private transport to reach. A multi-storey car park offers 800 covered parking spaces.
