The Hellerberg is 366.9  m above sea level. NHN high mountain in the middle Hellertal . It is located in the south of the Siegerland near Neunkirchen in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Siegen-Wittgenstein .

The Hellerberg lies between the core of the municipality Neunkirchen in the north and its districts Altenseelbach in the west to the south and Zeppenfeld in the east. To the north the Heller flows past, to the west the Seelbach , which flows into the Heller northwest of the mountain in Neunkirchen.

Parts of the landscape protection area (LSG) Neunkirchen ( CDDA -Nr. 390192; designated 2012; 28.127  km² ) are located on the wooded Hellerberg .

Natural allocation

The Hellerberg belongs in the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland ( Bergisch-Sauerland Mountains ; No. 33), in the main unit Siegerland (331) and in the subunit Hellerbergland (331.3) to the natural area Middle Hellertal (331.31). The landscape leads to the south-east into the natural area Südliches Hellerbergland (331.32).

Transmission mast and water tank

There is a transmission mast more than 60 m high on the Hellerberg . It is used for cell phone networks and for broadcasting radio programs ( Radio Siegen ). The station receives Radio Siegen from the Siegen-Giersberg station ; The signal is processed in a technical room and emitted via four transmitting antennas at a height of 40 m. There is a water tank to the south next door .

Mining

The Lohmannsfeld mine , which was in operation from around 1700 to 1948, was located at the south-southwest foot of the Hellerberg . In 1917, together with this and other Altenseelbach mines, the composite pit Grube Große Burg was founded.
