Hellstorm is an Italian thrash metal band from Milan that was formed in 1995.

history

The band was formed in November 1995 by guitarist Hypnos and bassist and singer Ares. In January 1996 Jessica joined as a second guitarist. Together they recorded the song Hellstorm for the Dutch sampler And the Raven Left the Tower by Teutonic Existence Records . In September, the line-up was changed by replacing Jessica with Chelmis and Davide "Death" Firinu as drummer. This enabled the group to make their first appearances. In July 1997, the demo Shadows of Unknown was recorded in the Malibù studio in Milan , of which around 600 copies were made. From 1998 to 2000 the band was hardly active due to a line-up change: Firinu left the band and Chelmis was replaced by Thanatos. In addition, members had to do their military service. The three of them were writing new songs. Firinu returned as a drummer for the album The Legion of the Storm . The phonogram was recorded between January and July 2001 and the end of 2002 and was released in March 2003 by Exodus Media . In the meantime, Phobos was added as the new drummer in May 2002. A short time later, Thanatos left the cast. In the following years the band played at various festivals such as the Tradate Iron Fest , the Milano Thrash Fest and the Thrash Disaster Festival . In addition, the line-up of the band changed again: After two and a half years Phobos left the band, while Ares could no longer take over the vocals due to health problems. Hurricane Master was found as a new singer. The drummer post was taken over by various musicians before Phobos returned in late 2008. In December 2010 the CorpseHunters EP was released . In 2011 the group played at the Italian Rock Hard Festival , opening up for Voivod , Whiplash and Helstar . After the band had reached a record deal with Punishment 18 Records in June 2012 , the album Into the Mouth of the Dead Reign was released on this label in November . After that, the band continued to perform live and could be seen at the Metalitalia Festival in 2013. In their career the band has performed with Destruction , M-Pire of Evil , Exumer , Dismember , Death Mechanism , Schizo and Hatework , among others .

style

In the band biography on hellstorm.it , the group names Venom , Kreator , Sodom , Possessed , Bathory , Destruction, Mercyful Fate and Judas Priest as influences. Marcel Rapp from Powermetal.de assigned the music on Into the Mouth of the Dead Reign to Thrash Metal, saying it was "rough, dirty and raw". The band is based on the Thrash Metal of the early 1980s and outlined it as a mixture of early Venom and " Ruhrpott -Thrash". The electric guitars play at a high level and the vocals are aggressive. The music, however, is not original or individual and, in terms of production, would not come close to bands such as Hammercult .
