Helmholtz Medal

The Helmholtz Medal was donated on August 31, 1891 on the occasion of the 70th birthday of the eponym Hermann von Helmholtz and is an award to scholars for outstanding achievements initially in the fields of natural and technical sciences, medicine and epistemology, today also for the humanities and Social sciences awarded by the Prussian Academy of Sciences (from 1946 by the German Academy of Sciences in Berlin and the Academy of Sciences of the GDR , from 1992 Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences ). The first four recipients were suggested by Helmholtz himself in 1892.

The Helmholtz Medal has been awarded every two years since 1994.
