Helmut Mader (born December 3, 1941 in Innsbruck ) is a former Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). He was a member of the Federal Council and President of the Tyrolean Parliament .

Life

Helmut Mader attended elementary school in Mieders from 1948 to 1952 and then went to the Bundesrealgymnasium in Innsbruck. In 1956 he moved to the electrical engineering department in Innsbruck, where he graduated from high school in 1961 and was subsequently awarded the title of engineer . Helmut Mader was then an employee of Tiroler Wasserkraftwerke AG until 1989 and was involved in the union. He was works council and long-time chairman of the central works council of TIWAG.

Helmut Mader was involved in the young ÖVP and in the ÖAAB . In 1967 he was elected city youth chairman of the ÖVP Innsbruck and was district chairman of the young ÖVP. He was also district chairman of the AAB Tirol and later rose to the position of regional chairman of the Tyrolean AAB.

After the state elections in Tyrol in 1970 , Mader was elected to the Federal Council by the state parliament. He was a member of the Federal Council from October 20, 1970 to July 1, 1975 and chaired the Federal Council between January 1, 1972 and June 30, 1972. The then 30-year-old became the youngest chairman since the founding of the Republic of Austria.

On July 1, 1975, Mader moved to the Tyrolean state parliament, where he was club chairman of the ÖVP state parliament club between 1987 and 1989. Mader was elected Deputy Governor on April 4, 1989 and remained in this position until April 5, 1994. He took over the departments of youth, families, women, senior citizens, labor market and employee development, human resources and sport. During his term of office, among other things, the establishment of the youth state parliament and the complete renovation of the state sports center. In 1994 he returned to the Tyrolean Parliament and was President of the Tyrolean Parliament from April 5, 1994 to July 1, 2008.

As president of the state parliament, Mader initiated extensive renovation work on the state parliament meeting room, the George Chapel and the staircase in the old country house. The renovation of the "Landschaftliche Pfarrkirche Mariahilf" and the rectory in 1998 also fell during his term of office. On Mader's initiative, an art chamber was opened in 2004 in the area of ​​Mariahilf. Mader did not stand in the state elections in 2008 and left the state parliament on July 1, 2008.

Corruption suspected

In August 2015 Mader came under criticism , among other things, because of a housing issue in the former Technikerhaus dormitory .

Due to the discovery of his free right to live in an apartment in Innsbruck, the ÖVP party presidium decided on August 17, 2015 to suspend Helmut Mader's party membership. On August 29, 2015, Mader left the ÖVP on his own initiative and returned all honors. On November 27, 2015, “the right to wear the ring of the state of Tyrol expired.” In an open letter, however, he affirmed that he could refute all allegations and that he would cooperate extensively with the investigating authorities. This was confirmed by the Vienna Business and Corruption Prosecutor on February 10, 2016. All allegations could be refuted by Mader. All proceedings were discontinued.

Helmut Mader is a member of the Ambronia Catholic Student Union at the Innsbruck HTL and wears the colors of seven TMV and two CV connections ( AV Austria Innsbruck and KÖHV Leopoldina Innsbruck ). He is a member of the Technikerhaus association and was president of the second oldest Tyrolean football club, FC Veldidena Innsbruck . Mader was also President of the Tyrolean Athletics Association from 1972 to 1987 and Austrian Vice President of the TaekWon Do Association for several years. Mader was also President of the Wilten Town Music Band until 2012.
