Helmut Redies
Helmut Redies (born November 18, 1927 in Frankfurt am Main ; † 1998 ) was a German diplomat .
Life
His father Franz Redies (* 1900; † May 2, 1985) was district administrator and director of IG Farben . Helmut Redies graduated from the Carl-Duisberg-Gymnasium in Leverkusen in 1946 and studied law in Mainz. He was the first-class representative of the ambassador in Montevideo and was promoted to counselor on July 23, 1969 .
Redies was Middle East advisor at the Bonn Foreign Ministry in 1972 :
“The Cairo embassy has now suggested that a group of around 30 members of the police academy in Cairo should be invited to an information trip to the Federal Republic of Germany for around 14 days after the Olympic Games have ended, possibly in October / November 1972. The Foreign Office considers such an invitation to be very desirable. [...] In this context it should be of interest that the Egyptian police did not have the best experiences with their advisors from the GDR during the time when relations were broken off ... "
On February 28, 1973 lecturer pointed Legationsrat first class Redies Counselor Walter Georg Nowak in Beirut to take up "in an unobtrusive manner possible" re-connecting with Palestinians:
"The aim is to try to dismantle the unfriendly image of the Federal Republic among the Palestinians, which apparently still exists, in order to counteract new attacks in the FRG or against their institutions abroad at the same time."
Ambassador Nowak contacted Muhammad Youssef al-Najjar on March 19, 1973 .
Middle East speaker Redies wrote a report on energy supply for a trip from Willy Brandt to US President Richard Nixon in 1973 .
In January 1977, Redies, as head of the Bonn subdivision of the United Nations , complained to the German UN representation in a long-distance conversation about the name convictions in resolutions of the General Assembly for cooperation with South Africa, which the Federal Government found extremely annoying.
From 1986 to 1987 Redies was the German ambassador in Copenhagen / Denmark.
