Helmut Scherer (Carnivalist)
Helmut Scherer (born December 5, 1934 in Paderborn ) is a German carnivalist. He is a citizen of the city of Unna and the initiator of the smallest carnival parade in the world.
Life
Helmut Scherer, who grew up in Paderborn, came to Unna on November 10, 1956 through family ties, where he has been working in the Katharinenhospital since 1956. Impressed by the St.Martin's parade of the Katharinenschule, which he experienced on his arrival on November 10th, 1956, he initiated the first carnival parade in Unna on the following day, November 11th (traditional start of the carnival season) with the theme of Westphalia, my homeland . Scherer pushed a baby carriage with a self-made doll through Unna. Although this parade went largely unnoticed, Scherer also initiated a carnival parade on Weiberfastnacht in 1957 with the theme of the Westphalia song, my home song . Scherer's carnival parades through Unna on various topics followed annually up to 2011. The handcart was the only wagon in the move, but groups of students from Unna schools and various music clubs also took part in the moves, especially from the 1990s onwards.
On Rose Monday 2006, Scherer took part in Germany's largest carnival parade in Cologne as a guest of honor in the official gallery of the WDR . In the same year appeared Scherer as a protagonist in the film Small rolls of Urs Spörri with.
Carnival parades
In addition to the initiation of the smallest carnival parade, Scherer also took part in carnival parades in other cities, including Bergkamen , Münster and Düsseldorf , with his theme floats, which were redesigned every year .
Scherer's move followed a route with various stops at shops that support the move. He also stormed the town hall and the event repeatedly met with broad and national media interest.
An article about Scherer says:
“Every year at carnival, newspapers, magazines, radio and television stations in Germany and neighboring countries report in words and pictures about the“ smallest carnival procession in the world ”[...]. Whether " Spiegel ", " Stern ", " Zeit " or Süddeutsche - major reports have been dedicated to him. The die-hard carnival jeck was with Jürgen von der Lippe , Johannes B. Kerner and other talk greats in the show, was interviewed in morning and noon magazines. His likeness flickers through all living rooms of the republic. "
Scherer was also a guest on the television show Das NRW-Duell by show master Bernd Stelter from Unna . He also appoints knights of humor every year at the beginning of the carnival season . The now 32 knights of the order include public figures in Unna who are particularly committed to the development of the Carnival in Unna.
On Weiberfastnacht 2011, Scherer said goodbye as the initiator of the smallest carnival parade in the world and now only intends to participate in carnival parades without making any significant arrangements.
Fan club
Through the long-term connection to the Katharinen Hospital, a fan club was formed by Scherer, which was founded by former community service workers and nursing students from the Katharinen Hospital. Scherer is president of the fan club, which in 2011 had 111 members.
