Helmut Schneider (physicist)

Helmut Schneider (born May 26, 1919 in Sholapore , India ; † June 19, 2011 ) was a Swiss physicist .

Life

Schneider was born in Sholapore , India and grew up in Canton , China , and Rostock , where he graduated from the Rostock Humanistic Gymnasium . He studied physics at the Technical University of Munich and graduated from the ETH Zurich (dipl. Phys. ETH). He was a research assistant for Paul Scherrer . From 1955 to 1959 he worked at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in Pretoria . In 1959 he was at the University of Freiburg to the Dr. sc. nat. PhD .

In 1960 he was given a teaching position at the University of Freiburg. He was appointed adjunct professor and in 1972 associate professor. From 1980 to 1986 he was a full professor for plasma physics . He was a member of the Swiss Physical Society . In 1985 he retired .
