Tausendteufel received his doctorate in 1997 at the Institute for Forensic Psychiatry and at the Institute for Sociology at the Free University of Berlin . He is mainly concerned with the conditions under which the intimate partner is killed. In a study he examined 200 cases of partner killings and described this process as an interplay of separation and reconciliation. Until 2010, Tausendteufel researched on a project for the Federal Criminal Police Office on the relationship between the age of the perpetrator and the crime scene variables.

After participating in various evaluation projects in the field of social work , empirical research projects on the development of right-wing extremism and propensity for violence in adolescence ( IfK , University of Potsdam ) and on the development and use of urban spaces by children and young people (TOPOS) followed. In March 2001, Tausendteufel was a member of the committee of eleven German experts in empirical social research who brought together the various measurement conventions on right-wing extremism (for more details, see “Center” studies ). He was involved in the analysis and evaluation of resolved homicides in Berlin with regard to their political aspects (1990–2014) at the Center for Research on Antisemitism at the TU Berlin.

Since 2015 he has been working alongside Claudius Ohder on a project on anti-gay violent crime .
