Hemaris ottonis is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of moth (Sphingidae).

features

The moths have a wingspan of 37 to 40 millimeters. They look very similar to Hemaris staudingeri , but can be distinguished from this species by the pale stripes on either side of the thorax . The rails ( tibia ) of the hind legs are gray with the exception of the tip.

Occurrence and way of life

The species is found in the far east of Russia (evidence from: Jewish Autonomous Oblast , Khabarovsk , Primorye Region ), north-east China (evidence from Jilin , Liaoning , Beijing , Shanxi ) and the Korean Peninsula (evidence from North Korea: Hamgyŏng-pukto ; evidence from South Korea: Gyeonggi-do , Gangwon-do , Jeollanam-do ) common. Flight times of the species are known in May (Liaoning), June (Jilin, Yevreyskaya and Primorje) and July (Shanxi). In Korea, the species flies from mid-May to late July. The pre-imaginal stages are not described. However, Lonicera japonica has been documented as a host plant from the Far East of Russia .
