Hemaris staudingeri is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of moth (Sphingidae).
features
The base on the top of the forewing of the moth is black or nearly black. The transparent disc cell is not divided lengthways by a scaled line. With the exception of those at the apex of the disc cell, the transverse arteries are not more scaled than the cubital artery. The inner edge of the marginal band is straight or serrated. The base on the top of the hind wings is also black or almost black. The front half of the abdomen is more or less colored black on the back and stands out clearly from the rear, yellow-orange segments. The rails ( tibia ) of the hind legs are black with the exception of the base. The species looks very similar to Hemaris ottonis , but this species differs mainly in light stripes on the sides of the thorax .
Occurrence and way of life
The species is widespread in eastern and central China ( Shaanxi , Anhui , Shanghai , Zhejiang , Hubei , Sichuan (?), Hunan , Jiangxi , Guangdong ), north to south of the Far East of Russia ( Primorye region ). It colonizes deciduous forests. The moths are documented in Guangdong from late March to late April, in Zhejiang in April, May and July to mid-August, in Shaanxi, Shanghai, Hubei and Hunan in July, in Anhui in late August, in the Primorye region in mid-July and early August . At least from Zhejiang two generations are known in April and from July to August. The pupa becomes 43 to 45 millimeters long. As larval food plants are honeysuckle ( Lonicera ) documents.
