Before his ordination as Bishop of Brandenburg he was Provost of Brandenburg and from 1385 to 1397 Canon of Brandenburg. It is believed that his election as Bishop of Brandenburg took place in late 1406. On January 14, 1407 he received from Pope Gregory XII. permission for his ordination as bishop. He issued a statute against the objectionable conduct of the clergy.

On August 24, 1407, Henning von Bredow was on the way from Brandenburg to Ziesar . On the way he was attacked by Magdeburg collegiate vassals and taken prisoner. They kidnapped him to Milow Castle near Milow . Henning von Bredow was only released on April 23, 1408 by paying a ransom. Due to the confused conditions in the Mark, he joined the Quitzow party. With their support, he undertook a vengeance against the Magdeburg citizens in the autumn of 1408 . At Glienecke near Ziesar he fought a battle with the Magdeburgers on October 27, 1408, in which he was victorious. Under the leadership of Magdeburg's Archbishop Günther II , an alliance against the Roman Curia was formed , which Henning von Bredow also joined on June 16, 1410. When the Burgrave of Nuremberg Friedrich I moved into the Mark, he left the Quitzow party and paid homage to the Burgrave on July 10, 1412 in Brandenburg.

The last written mention of Hennings von Bredow is on April 30, 1414. The date of his death is unknown.
