Henri Gicot

Henri Gicot (born January 23, 1897 in Le Landeron ; † August 3, 1982 in Freiburg ) was a Swiss civil engineer .

Life

Henri Gicot was born in La Landeron on January 23, 1897, the son of the town engineer of La Landeron Maurice Gicot and Marie-Louise, née Favre. After studying civil engineering from 1915 to 1919 at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich , he worked as an employee in the engineering office Heinrich Eduard Gruner in Basel . From 1927 to 1971 he ran his own office in Freiburg. In addition, Gicot acted as initiator and president of the Swiss National Committee for Large Dams from 1948 to 1961 and as a member of the Swiss School Council from 1953 to 1967 . In addition, Gicot was an expert at the World Bankactive in Asia and South America .

Henri Gicot, entitled to live in Freiburg and married to Geneviève, née Genoud, died on August 3, 1982 at the age of 85 in Freiburg.

With the Rossens Dam, built between 1944 and 1948 , Henri Gicot made a name for himself internationally as a specialist in dams. The Montsalvens dams near Broc 1919 to 1921, the buildings below the Aletsch Glacier 1949 to 1950, Delcommune in the Belgian Congo , 1950 to 1952, Vieux-Emosson 1954 to 1955, Zeuzier 1955 to 1957, Schiffenen near Düdingen 1960 to 1964, were based on his plans . Les Toules on the Great Saint Bernard from 1961 to 1963 and on the Hongrin from 1964 to 1968. He also constructed the Javroz bridges near Charmey from 1949 to 1951 and the Gottéron bridge in Freiburg from 1958 to 1960. He was also involved in the construction of the Miséricorde University in Freiburg.
