Heinrich Schreiber (mathematician)
Heinrich Schreiber (also known as Heinrich Grammateus or Henricus Grammateus ; * before 1496, probably in 1492 in Erfurt , † Winter 1525 / 1526 in Vienna ) was a German mathematician and astronomer .
Schreiber enrolled at the University of Vienna in 1507 , then studied from 1514 to 1517 in Krakow and then returned to Vienna, where he appears in the minutes of the meeting as Magister Henricus Gramatheus . In Vienna he was the teacher of the mathematician Christoph Rudolff . When the University of Vienna was closed due to the plague in 1521, he went to Nuremberg, where he published several works on applied algebra and practical astronomy, including 1518 Ayn new kunstlich Buech ... in which he consistently used the symbols "+" and "-" for the first time. used for addition and subtraction .
