Henryk Rodakowski
Henryk Rodakowski (also Henryk von Rodakowski ; born July 9, 1823 in Lemberg , † December 28, 1894 in Krakow ) was a Polish - Austrian painter .
Life
Rodakowski came from a Lviv legal family. He began law at the University of Vienna to study, but at the same time he studied in the years 1841 to 1845 painting in the studio of Josef Danhauser .
In 1846 he came to Paris to continue his painting studies with Léon Cogniet . His portrait of General Henryk Dembiński was awarded a gold medal at the Paris Art Exhibition. Eugène Delacroix rated Rodakowski's works highly in the Paris press.
In 1861 he married Camilla Blühdorn. The couple had two children.
After spending more than 20 years in Paris, he returned to his homeland. He settled first in Gut Palachitsche near Stanislawow , then in Bortniki near Chodorow , came back to Vienna and finally settled in Krakow .
Rodakowski was elected chairman of the Cracow Society of Friends of Fine Arts in 1893 . On December 24, 1894, he was appointed director of the Cracow Art School, but died unexpectedly four days later.
Rodakowski was awarded the cross of the French Legion of Honor.
