Henry's lily ( Lilium henryi ) is a species from the genus of lilies ( Lilium ) in the Sinomartagon section . It is named after the Irish sinologist Augustine Henry (born July 2, 1857-23 March 1930).

Henry's Lily is a perennial bulb plant . It is usually 1.4 to 2.4 meters high, but the height can fluctuate in the range 1.0 to 3.0 meters. The bulb is almost spherical and about 7 centimeters in diameter, up to 20 cm in culture. The onion scales are 3.5 to 4.5 inches long, 1.4 to 1.6 inches wide, oblong and white. The green, purple-dashed, bald stem has stem bulbs in the ground, but axillary bulbs are missing. The alternate leaves are twofold. The lower and middle leaves are 7.5 to 15 inches long, 2 to 2.7 inches wide, with a short stalk and a lanceolate shape. The upper leaves, on the other hand, are 2 to 4 centimeters long, 1.5 to 2.5 centimeters wide, sessile and egg-shaped.
There are usually 4 to 20, more rarely 1 to 70 nodding, turban-shaped, non-scented flowers in a cluster . They are arranged in pairs on each of the flower stalks . The tepals are bent back, lanceolate, 5 to 8 centimeters long, 1 to 2 centimeters wide, orange, scattered black-brown spotted and provided with brown papillary warts on the upper side. The nectarium has numerous fringed extensions on both sides. The stamens spread apart. The stamens are bare and 4 to 4.5 inches long. The anthers are colored deep vermilion. The ovary is about 1.5 centimeters, the stylus is about 5 centimeters long. The capsule fruits are brown, 4 to 4.5 inches long, about 3.5 inches wide and oblong.
In the natural habitat, the species blooms in July and fruit in September.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.

Henry's Lily is native to China in southeast Sichuan, Guizhou, west Hubei, Jiangxi, and northwest Fujian. It grows on mountain slopes at altitudes of 700 to 1000 meters.

The species was introduced into Europe as a garden plant by Augustine Henry . He collected onions in the gorges of the Jangtze near Yichang and sent them to Kew Gardens , where they were cultivated from 1889. Wilson sent more onions to Europe and the United States. Lilium henryi is rarely used as an ornamental plant for perennial beds and the edges of trees and is considered to be easy to cultivate. In Central Europe the flowering time is in August, rarely also in September. She loves lime. The onion should be set very deep. Since the stems are often weak, the plant usually needs support.
The 'Citrinum' variety has lemon yellow flowers and a late flowering period. There are some culture hybrids with other lily species from the Regalia and Speciosum sections, e.g. B. the Aurelian hybrids with Lilium sargentiae and the cultivar 'Black Beauty' with Lilium speciosum . The latter is characterized by up to 30 centimeters in diameter, dark red flowers with a white border and dark papillary warts.
