Herbert Arndt (politician)

Herbert Arndt (born December 16, 1906 in Berlin ; † March 18, 1994 there ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Herbert Arndt was the son of a lathe operator and attended high school . He trained as a banker and became a securities dealer on the Berlin stock exchange . In 1927 he joined the SPD and the Central Employees' Association . From 1931 Arndt worked as a banker at the Reichshauptbank . In 1939 he was drafted into the Wehrmacht and then became a prisoner of war .

After the Second World War , Arndt worked from 1951 as an employee at the Berlin Central Bank and the headquarters of the Deutsche Bundesbank . In 1956 he became chairman of the staff council at the Landeszentralbank in Berlin. In the Berlin election in 1958 , Arndt was elected to the district assembly in the Wedding district. In the next election in 1963 he was elected to the Berlin House of Representatives. From 1964 to 1970 he was the chairman of the SPD Wedding and from 1972 to 1977 the chairman of the Arbeiterwohlfahrt (AWO) in Wedding. In 1975 he left the House of Representatives for reasons of age.

In 1979 Arndt was honored with the Ernst Reuter badge .
