Herbert Brewer

Herbert Brauer (born November 3, 1915 in Berlin ; † November 4, 2013 in Berlin) was a German concert and opera singer specializing in the lyrical baritone .

Life

After graduating from a humanistic grammar school in Berlin, Brauer first studied dentistry, then attended the University of Music Education and Church Music in Berlin and began studying music at the university, where he obtained a doctorate in 1942 in Gießen. phil. followed (Goethe's song poetry with Franz Schubert and Hugo Wolf). From 1935 to 1939 he also studied singing with Karl Schmitt-Walter and Willi Domgraf-Fassbaender . In 1945 he made his debut as an opera singer at the Berlin State Opera , where he was part of the ensemble until 1948 and worked with Walter Felsenstein . Other stages were among others Zurich and the Städtische Oper Berlin . In addition, Brauer, who also held the title of professor, taught at the Berlin University of the Arts. His students included Josef Becker, Lee Kwang-Keun , Kwangchul Youn and Jonathan de la Paz Zaens .

In addition, he took on singing and speaking roles in various radio productions of the SFB, RIAS, NWDR, BR and SDR. In addition, Brauer dubbed actors in vocal parts for film productions, such as Claus Holm as "Fluth" in DEFA's 1950 production The Funny Wives of Windsor .

Herbert Brauer died just one day after his 98th birthday in Berlin. He was buried on November 15, 2013 in the Dahlem cemetery.
