Herbert Pohl (police officer)

Herbert Pohl (born July 9, 1933 in Liegnitz ) is a former German police officer. From 1977 to 1990 he was head of the fire department of the Ministry of the Interior (MdI) of the GDR .

Life

The son of a working-class family learned to be a gardener after attending elementary school in the Langensalza district . In 1951 he followed the call of the FDJ and joined the German People's Police (DVP). From 1952 he served in the barracked people's police . In 1953 he became a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany . In 1954 he switched to the police force. From 1966 to 1970 he completed his studies at the DVP University and became a graduate political scientist. Then he was in the district authority of the German People's Police (BDVP) in Erfurt as captain of the fire brigade, responsible for the organization and protection of major events. From 1974 to 1977 he was the deputy head of the BDVP Erfurt for the fire brigade and penal system.

In 1977 he was appointed as colonel of the fire department by the Minister of the Interior Friedrich Dickel as head of the main fire department in the MdI (successor of Major General Karl Gläßel ). At the same time he was appointed chairman of the National Committee of Fire Brigades in the GDR. Since 1978 Herbert Pohl was also a member of the Permanent Council of the International Technical Committee for Preventive Fire Protection and Fire Extinguishing ( CTIF ). On June 23, 1981 he was appointed major general of the fire brigade by the chairman of the National Defense Council of the GDR, Erich Honecker .

In the aftermath of the International Fire Brigade Sports Competition of the World Fire Brigade Association CTIF , which took place in Vöcklabruck / Austria on July 15-21, 1985 , due to fraternities with West German firefighters in the Ministry for State Security, the operational process was set up under the name "Syringe", in which one politically -identified ideological ambiguities in the team of the GDR selection team, which were the responsibility of Herbert Pohl.

In May 1990 the rank was renamed to Chief Inspector of the Fire Brigade . After the main fire department was dissolved, he became head of the newly created fire, civil and disaster control sub-department in the Ministry of the Interior on July 1, 1990. On October 2, 1990, he was dismissed from the service of the MdI.
