Heribert Offermanns

Heribert Offermanns (born October 24, 1937 in Merkstein near Aachen ) became known as a chemist and manager at Degussa AG in the second half of the 20th century.

life and work

He studied chemistry at the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen ( RWTH Aachen ) . He completed his diploma and doctoral theses in Friedrich Asinger's group in the border area between organic and technical chemistry. Offermanns then worked in industrial chemical and pharmaceutical research at Degussa AG, as well as at Degussa Antwerpen NV and Degussa Inc. New York. Since 1976 Offermanns has been a member of the Degussa AG Board of Management with responsibility for research and development. Offermanns remained a member of the Board of Management until 2000 and had a decisive influence on the establishment and expansion of the Degussa Research Center in Hanau-Wolfgang through his personality.

Heribert Offermanns has been on the Presidium of the Society of German Chemists , whose Carl Duisberg plaque he received, in the Senate of the German Research Foundation (DFG), as a member of the University Council of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt, as a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Regensburg and Paul Ehrlich - Foundation and as chairman of the board of trustees of the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research , Stuttgart, as well as in politics voluntarily for decades. He had a teaching position at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University and was appointed honorary professor there in 1988 .

Heribert Offermanns has published numerous scientific papers on sulfur chemistry and the production and use of hydrogen peroxide and has emerged as an inventor with numerous patents .

Offermanns is married and has two grown daughters.
