Hermann Apple

Karl Hermann Heinrich Gustav Apfel (born September 23, 1807 in Braunschweig ; † February 7, 1892 there ) was a German Lutheran theologian .

Life

Hermann Apfel was born in Braunschweig in 1807 as the son of the pharmacist Karl Hermann Apfel. He attended grammar school until 1825 and graduated from the Collegium Carolinum in 1826 . Apfel studied theology in Halle and from 1828 in Berlin , where Friedrich Schleiermacher was one of his influential teachers. He passed the main examination in 1832.

From 1829 to 1830 he taught at the free school in Helmstedt . In the summer of 1830 he moved to Holzminden , where he gave lessons at the Steinacker School, the Citizens' School and, from 1832, also at the local grammar school. In 1834 he was given the position of pastor in Altendorf and the diaconate parish in Holzminden. Apfel became head of the community school and continued to teach religion at the grammar school and at the Holzminden building trade school . In 1841 he was one of the founders of the Amelungsborn Preachers' Association. In 1851 Apfel became provost and first preacher at the main church BMV in Wolfenbüttel and in 1852 superintendent and school inspector of Langelsheim . In 1867 he moved to Seesen as superintendent . In addition to his official business, he taught religion at the local Jacobson School . He was a member of the regional synod from 1872 to 1885 . In 1884 he celebrated his 50th parish anniversary, was honored by the town of Seesen with honorary citizenship and by the regional church with the title of Council of Churches .

Apfel was old master and honorary master of the Freemason Lodge Wilhelm in Wolfenbüttel on the three pillars .

In the fall of 1885, Apfel retired. He spent his twilight years in Braunschweig, most recently at Pflegehausstrasse 1, where he died on February 7, 1892.
