Arthur Thost

Hermann Arthur Thost (born June 9, 1854 in Zwickau , † December 22, 1937 in Hamburg ) was a German doctor for ear, nose and throat medicine . He was the first director of the ENT clinic in what later became the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf .

Life

Thost studied medicine at the University of Leipzig , the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg and the Ruprecht Karls University of Heidelberg . In 1879 he was promoted to Dr. med. PhD . He was trained in internal medicine under Nicolaus Friedreich . Thost remained connected to this master subject of ENT medicine in later years. He became an ENT doctor in Strasbourg and with Leopold Schrötter von Kristelli in Vienna . After traveling around the world in 1884, he settled in Hamburg. 1899 asked him Hamburg Senate , itself as consultants to the patients of the new General Hospital in Eppendorf to care. In 1919 he became associate professor , later professor and director of the ENT clinic. Thost was professionally recognized far beyond Germany. Due to his professional policy (outpatient care for patients, solving the health insurance question), he was also highly regarded by the Hamburg medical profession. The recognition of the specialist colleagues found its expression in the award of honorary membership of many laryngological societies, finally also the Society of German Ear, Nose and Throat Doctors .

Arthur Thost had been a member of the Corps Rhenania Würzburg since 1877 . Since 1886 he was a member of the Academic Club in Hamburg , which he headed from 1906 to 1936 as Dominus praeses (since 1926 as an honorary member).
